Local newspaper publisher in Pangasinan hurt in ambush

MANILA, Philippines - Unidentified gunmen wounded a local newspaper publishing in a shooting incident in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on Tuesday morning.

Police identified the victim as Jaime Aquino, publisher of local newspaper Northern Star.

Aquino was reading a newspaper in a waiting shed when he was waylaid by three unidentified gunmen on board a motorcycle.

Police said that according to witnesses, Aquino was able to run to his car parked 10 meters away from the waiting shed while he was being shot by the three gunmen.

Aquino sustained a gunshot wound in the back.

He was rushed by responding policemen to the Villaflor Doctors Provincial Hospital in Dagupan City.

Aquino is facing a murder charge along with Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and Pangasinan Reo. Jesus Celeste for the killing of Infanta Mayor Ruperto Martinez in December 2012.
