MANILA, Philippines - Seven people, including a town mayor, were hurt after a passenger jeepney collided with a car in Quezon province Tuesday night.
Police identified the injured victims as Rodelo Torres Tena, 57, municipal mayor of Jomalig, Quezon; his wife, Glori, 53; and their son Jeremiah, 16. They were rushed to the Mt. Carmel General Hospital for medical treatment.
Others hurt during the collision were Neri Uy Tan, 70; Reyman Jader Roxas, 21; Avelina Zafra Quinsanos, 64; and Celia Ranillo Bandong, 60; all were passengers of the jeep. They were brought to Tayabas community hospital.
Initial investigation showed that the jeepney, driven by Joselito Jacela Natay, 46, was speeding along the provincial road of Brgy. Wakas, Tayabas City around 7:20 pm when the vehicle lost its brakes.
The jeep then went straight to the opposite lane and collided with the Tena's car.
Police will file criminal charges against the jeepney driver.
