ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A barangay chairman was shot dead in front of his family in Dinas town, Zamboanga del Sur Sunday.
Julian Nacua, chairman of Barangay West Migpulao and a staunch supporter of a defeated mayoral candidate, was having lunch in their house when the suspect, identified as Muamar Fermin, barged in and shot him at close range.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman for the Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9), said the victim died on the spot from several gunshot wounds. The suspect fled after the incident.
Huesca said investigators are eyeing personal grudge and politics as among the possible motives for the killing.
