COTABATO CITY, Philippines --- A seven-month old boy was killed while his mother was badly injured in a grenade blast Wednesday dawn in the troubled Kabacan town in North Cotabato.
The fatality, Chelzy Eliarda, succumbed to shrapnel wounds in different parts of his body.
Eliarda’s injured mother, Sohaina, was rushed to a hospital for medication.
Investigators said the victims were inside their house when one of two men riding a motorcycle together tossed a fragmentation grenade at their frontyard along Malvar Street in Kabacan.
The grenade attack was the second in Kabacan since Monday.
Unidentified bombers blasted a Mark II fragmentation grenade at the campus of the Kabacan Central Pilot School. No one was reported killed or injured in the incident, but the explosion triggered panic and scared voters.
Voting at the school resumed an hour later after responding policemen and soldiers cleared the area.
