‘Gang leader’ arrested in Cavite raid

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Authorities arrested a suspected leader of a criminal syndicate in a police operation in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, police said yesterday.

Orlando Carampot, said to be the head and financier of notorious gang,”Carampot,” yielded  several firearms including  an M16 rifle, a baby Armalite,  a caliber .22 pistol and several rounds of ammunition.

Senior Superintendent Pedro Cabatingan, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 4A (CIDG4A), said “Coplan Carampot” was formed to neutralize and arrest the five members of the gang.

He said Carampot’s cousin, Jervy, and four of his cohorts have arrest warrants for murder in Cavite and nearby provinces.

Cabatingan told The STAR that aside from his own group, Carampot was allegedly the financier of several criminal syndicates.  He said the firearms were seized in a raid on the suspect’s junk shop in Barangay Langcaan II last Saturday.
