COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Investigators have tagged a 14-year-old boy as the gunman in the killing of a candidate for the municipal council in Banisilan, North Cotabato last Sunday night.
“By all indications, the murder of Omar Gafur was not election-related,†said Senior Superintendent Danny Peralta, North Cotabato police director.
Peralta said Gafur was a victim of “vendetta killing,†as the young suspect belongs to another Moro clan hostile to the family of Gafur, who was running for Banisilan councilor under the United Nationalist Alliance.
Peralta said Gafur was headed home from a campaign sortie when the gunman approached him from behind and repeatedly shot him with a .45-caliber pistol.
