MANILA, Philippines - A total of 231 military personnel will be deployed all over Metro Manila to provide extra security for the May 13 midterm elections.
Col. Arnulfo Burgos, spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, said that the 231 soldiers were ordered to report to the National Capital Region Police Office on Wednesday.
Burgos said that the 231 soldiers will be under the supervision of the police until the end of the electoin period and NCRPO chief Leonardo Espina will decide where they will be deployed.
Burgos added that the military is prepared to lend additional troops to the police to help in the security operations for the elections.
