MANILA, Philippines - A motorcycle rider was killed while three others were hurt when a wayward 10-wheeler truck rammed two vehicles in Antipolo City yesterday.
Jerome Roselio, 27, sustained massive head and body injuries and died while being rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.
Injured were truck driver Edwin Baluyot, 36, and his two helpers, Amichael Henson, 31, and his younger brother, Jonathan, 25. They were brought to the same hospital.
Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, said the 10-wheeler truck was negotiating a downhill road along Marcos Highway in Sitio Cabading, Barangay San Jose when its brakes malfunctioned.
The truck was loaded with gravel and sand and was on its way to Manila from Infanta, Quezon, said Anduyan.
The truck rammed a Toyota Vios taxi driven by Mark Neil Sanchez, who luckily was unharmed.
Witnesses said Baluyot maneuvered the truck to the road’s left shoulder, hitting the motorcycle driven by Roselio, who had stopped to wait for his turn to pass by the road where only one lane was available because it was being repaired.
The truck fell to its side and Baluyot and his two helpers were buried in the sand and gravel. Bystanders pulled them out and rushed them, along with Roselio, to the hospital.
