CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – With the help of the victim himself, police were able to identify one of two men who shot and wounded a reporter of the tabloid “People’s Tonight†in Bacoor City, Cavite on Wednesday morning.
Reporter Jun Baldecantos, 42, told investigators that he recognized one of his attackers while he was being treated at the hospital, said Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, Calabarzon police director.
Two police tracker teams have been deployed to go after Baldecantos’ attackers believed hiding in nearby Cavite towns, Estipona said.
Probers were eyeing personal grudge behind the slay attempt although they were still determining if was work-related, he added.
Police were checking reports that one of the motorcycle-riding gunmen was willing to give himself up to authorities.
Baldecantos had just brought his four-year-old son to school in Bacoor and was taking his breakfast in a nearby eatery when he was shot.
He sustained bullet wounds in the thigh and chest but has been declared out of danger.
Baldecantos used to be a columnist and reporter of another tabloid, “Hataw.â€
