Gov't steps up fire prevention drive

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Fire Protection has stepped up its fire-prevention drive this coming March when blazes frequently break out.

The BFP-National Capital Region will kick off Friday, Mar.1, the Fire Prevention Month with the theme “Sunog at Sakuna Paghandaan, Kalikasan ay Pangalagaan nang Matamasa ang Pag-unlad ng Bayan."

“Making everyday a fire prevention day through the active involvement of the community will avert if not minimize these calamities which will contribute a lot in the strengthening of our economy,” BFP-NCR director Chief Superintendent Santiago Laguna said.

BFP-NCR recently held an information drive at the informal settlers of Barangay Pinagkaisahan, Cubao, Quezon City, giving leaflets with reminders to be more cautious and preemptive as their community is a fire hazard.

The fire personnel noticed that the houses in the area are congested and usually made of light materials which may pose danger and result in a blaze.
