LAPU-LAPU, Philippines - Local government headed by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza conducted its first mass wedding for couples.
The wedding at the city's auditorium was attended by 130 couples under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (PPP) program pushed by the national government.
Radaza, who is vying for reelection in May, also shouldered the expenses of the brides and their grooms including document processing, pre-wedding seminar, venue, reception as well as the food, according to a statement.
The mayor added that although the mass nuptial was exclusive to those under the PPP, she hopes that the government will extend it to everyone in the city.
Majority of the couples hailed from the barangays of Buaya, Gun-ob, Looc, Pajac and Calisawon.
