LAGUNA, Philippines – A San Pablo City councilor was killed while his bodyguard was critically wounded in an ambush yesterday afternoon, police said.
Chief Superintendent James Melad, Calabarzon police director, promptly ordered Senior Superintendent Pascual Muñoz, Laguna police director, to form a task force to go after the ambushers of Councilor Edgardo Adayar, 55, and his security aide, Rolando Leonardo, 40.
Melad said the two sustained gunshots wounds in the head. Adajar was pronounced dead on arrival at a San Pablo City hospital, while Leonardo was in serious condition.
Melad said two still unidentified men blocked the victims’ path in Barangay Concepcion and then fired at them at around 4 p.m.
“We are still awaiting the results of the investigation, if the ambush was related to politics,” Melad said in a phone interview.
