MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday said it is monitoring a a low pressure area (LPA) spotted southeast of Mindanao.
PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA has a slim of intensifying into a tropical depression, but if it does it will b named “Auring.”
Aurelio said that PAGASA is expecting at least one storm to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this January.
He said the LPA will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Mindanao and some parts of Visayas starting Thursday.
As of 2 a.m. Wednesday, the LPA embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone was estimated at 1,020 KM southeast of Mindanao.
Northern Luzon, on the other hand, will experience light rains due to the effects of the northeast monsoon.
The rest of Luzon including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers due to the localized convection.
In its advisory, PAGASA said that Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light rains while Leyte provinces and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to north with slight to moderate seas.
