MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has sought assistance from the US Bureau of Reclamation to send experts that would review the proposed P5.7-billion Angat Dam rehabilitation project.
This came after a Filipino dam safety expert based in California, engineer Roderick de la Cruz, advised the MWSS to have the project peer-reviewed by experts.
Architect Gerardo Esquivel, MWSS administrator, told The STAR that he has already sent a letter-request to the US Bureau of Reclamation.
He said it was meant to secure the services of dam safety experts who would analyze and peer-review the Angat Dam rehabilitation project that is expected to start next year.
Esquivel said their move is based on the advice of De la Cruz, a Bulakenyo dam safety expert who is currently working with the Southern California Edison in the US where he is managing 87 dams.
