Freed Kiwi accused of child rape back in prison

MANILA, Philippines - Police on Thursday arrested a New Zealand national who was earlier allowed to post bail after being arrested for trafficking and child abuse in Davao City last October.

Superintendent Renante Cabico, chief of the Davao City police, said they arrested David Willia Wakefield, 50, after the Davao City Regional Trial Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

"I am pleased that the court found probable cause to place Wakefield in prison," Cabico said.

Wakefield was arrested last October 25 from his hotel room for alleged violations of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, the Anti-Child Abuse Act, and statutory rape.

The police brought the complainants, both girls aged 11 and 13, in Wakefield’s room to check if he was the person they alleged to have committed sexual molestations against them.

A week later, however, the Kiwi was given temporary liberty due to a technicality.
