Earist studes to protest vs 3-day class program

MANILA, Philippines - Students of state-run Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) will troop to the Commission on Higher Education main office in Quezon City on Monday to protest the increase of school fees and implementation of a three-day class program.

The students will storm the Ched office this morning where  CHED concurrent with the Board of Trustees meeting of EARIST where the Student Regent and Institute Student Government will raise the three-day class program and the illegal P1,500 developmental and energy fees.

The program, according to Anakbayan EARIST Chapter, was decided only by the institute’s president Dr. Eduardo Caillo and was implemented without consultations with stakeholders.

Anakbayan also said the program will only worsen the quality of education as professors and students are made to suffer with reduced class days and congested class hours.

Students have feared that the three-day class program shows that EARIST is in the early stage of amalgamation of state universities and colleges under the Roadmap to Higher Education Program of the Aquino administration.

During the program, the student-protesters plan to throw paint bombs at the office’s building to show their indignation. - Dennis Carcamo
