MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – Singer-composer Rey Valera has joined the political race in Meycauayan City, as he filed his certificate of candidacy for the vice mayoral post last week.
A resident of Barangay Bayugo, Meycauayan City, Valera is running under the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban party of Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Former Meycauayan vice mayor Dennis Carlos told The STAR that Valera was persuaded to be the running mate of PDP-Laban mayoral bet Salvador Violago after a long consultation.
Violago, a former vice mayor of the city, is aiming to end the reign of incumbent Mayor Joan Alarilla who succeeded her late husband Eduardo.
Two other celebrities are running in Bulacan: reelectionist Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando, and singer Imelda Papin who is eyeing the lone congressional district of San Jose del Monte City.
