P6-B wind energy plant to rise in Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Philippines  – A 48-megawatt wind power project in Oriental Mindoro, said to be the biggest of such undertaking so far in the country, is set for groundbreaking on Friday in the resort town of Puerto Galera.

Oriental Mindoro Rep. Rodolfo Valencia announced this Sunday, adding that the three-phased project, called the 48-mw wind energy power system is worth P6 billion. 

The second of its kind in the Philippines, the project is capable of generating 16 megawatts of electric power.

Italian Ambassador Luca Fornari is expected to attend the groundbreaking rites along with Oriental Mindoro Gov. Alfonso Umali Jr., second district Rep. Rey Umali, Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras and representatives from Italian power firm CMC Asia Inc. led by its chairman and chief executive officer of Philippine Hybrid Energy System Inc. Armando de Rossi.  

The project’s facility site in the mountain village of Baclayan, overlooking Puerto Galera’s scenic resorts and coves, has an area of 1,296 hectares.
