Iloilo radioman slay suspect falls in Negros

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – One of the two suspects in the killing of an Iloilo-based broadcaster last year was arrested in Negros Occidental yesterday morning, according to the website of TV5 said.

Suspect Noel Guimeroy was nabbed in Barangay Tinungan in Isabela town yesterday morning on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Felipe Banzon of the Silay City regional trial court, InterAksyon.com quoted Chief Inspector Cresenciano Cordero of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Negros Occidental as saying.

Another suspect, former militiaman Joel Calungsod, remains at large, he said.

Both are facing murder charges for the killing of broadcaster Niel Jimena who was gunned down in E. B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on Aug. 22 last year.

Jimena, a resident of La Paz, Iloilo City, was a former informant of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and worked as a radio block-timer, anchoring several programs in Iloilo radio stations for a local business tycoon. He survived a slay attempt in 2010. – With Cecille Suerte Felipe
