MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has in its custody four more of the 12 inmates who escaped from the Ozamiz City jail in Misamis Occidental last July 29.
In a report to Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, BJMP director Chief Superintendent Diony Mamaril said inmate Frevilito Gabigas Jr. and a fellow escapee, a minor, surrendered to Ozamiz City Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez on Thursday.
Mamaril said the two others, Angelo Bacus and Jomar Pelago, were re-arrested also last Thursday in the outskirts of the cities of Pagadian and Ozamiz.
This brought to eight the number of escapees now in BJMP custody.
A day after the jailbreak, BJMP tracker teams recaptured escapees Angelito Pepito, Ronie Tumapon, Wilfred Giolen, and Jojie Pabingwit.
Mamaril said a manhunt is still on for escapees Wilfredo Panongalinga Jr., Mario Elumbaga, Harry Alfeche, and Roger Felicilda.
Following the escape, Mamaril sacked the Ozamiz City jail warden, Inspector Murphy Podyog, and designated Inspector Arnel Nacasabug as his replacement.
Mamaril reminded all jail wardens and guards to always be vigilant especially this rainy season when inmates may take advantage of the heavy rains to escape.
