MANILA, Philippines - Millennium Challenge Account-Philippines (MCA-P) will bid out a contract for the rehabilitation of a 64.6-kilometer road section in Eastern Samar under the Secondary National Roads Development Project (SNRDP) funded by Millennium Challenge Corp. (MCC).
The road section starts at the San Julian-Sulat municipal boundary and ends at the Balangkayan-Llorente municipal boundary in Eastern Samar. It is one of four contract packages to be implemented in the 224-kilometer road project.
The contract duration is 1,095 days with the anticipated commencement date of contract on Aug. 15.
The SNRDP is one of the three MCC-funded projects, with an allocation of $214.4 million. It involves the construction and rehabilitation of existing roads and bridges, including road widening, pavement strengthening, drainage improvement and traffic calming measures.
The project will incorporate enhanced safety measures in the final road designs, including paved shoulders, sidewalks and curbs, and road marking.
The road project will pass through 15 municipalities and about 282,000 people are projected to benefit from it through reduced transport costs and greater access to the communities’ needs. It is also expected to catalyze economic activity in Eastern Samar.
A pre-bid conference will be held on May 9. The deadline for the submission of bids is June 15.
