Journalists putting up bounty for radioman's killers

KORONADAL CITY ,Philippines  – Central Mindanao media groups have called on the public to help them raise a reward fund for the arrest of the killers of General Santos City publisher and broadcaster Christopher Guarin.

The suspects are believed to be members of a gun-for-hire syndicate operating in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City (Socsksargen).

The STAR learned that Central Mindanao media groups have so far raised P70,000, of which P50,000 was donated by a concerned citizen.

Guarin, a news presenter on Radio Mindanao Network and publisher-editor of Tatak News Nationwide, was on his way home when two men riding on a motorcycle shot him last Jan. 5.

Police said Guarin was shot five times in front of his wife and children.

James Catalan, president of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas-General Santos City chapter, has assured the wife, children and relatives of Guarin that they will not stop fighting for justice.

“Whoever was responsible for his (Guarin) death should be arrested” Catalan told The STAR.
