MANILA, Philippines - The Senate has approved the conversion of the municipalities of Imus and Bacoor in Cavite into cities.
Senate committee on local government chairman Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who sponsored House Bills 4729 and 4730, said the two Cavite municipalities were able to satisfy the legal requirements for conversion into cities as provided for under the Local Government Code.
According to Marcos, the conversion of Imus and Bacoor into cities will enhance the capability of their respective local government units to deliver needed services to a growing population.
Under the law, cities receive a bigger share of the internal revenue allotment (IRA) than municipalities.
For most LGUs, they rely on their IRAs to provide all of the necessary services for their constituents.
Marcos said the bills were passed in recognition of the rapid urbanization of Imus and Bacoor.
