ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - – Suspected Abu Sayyaf militants bombed a bridge in Patikul, Sulu Monday night, the military said yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Romeo Tanalgo, commander of the Sulu Island Command, said the Abu Sayyaf detonated the bomb at around 9:45 p.m. Monday, destroying the Tangantanga Bridge in Barangay Taung, Patikul town.
Tanalgo said no one was reported injured in the attack which, however, rendered the bridge impassable to all type of vehicles, affecting the transport of agricultural products.
The military could not immediately say if the attack was meant to divert the ongoing military offensive against rogue elements of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
