ISABELA, Philippines – Nearly 4,000 board feet of illegally harvested lumber was seized yesterday in Jones and Ilagan towns in this province by the provincial government’s anti-logging task force.
The task force confiscated more than 3,000 board feet of sawn lumber from a truck owned by a certain Russel Padaca in Barangay Diarao, Jones town and hardwood lumber “abandoned” in Barangay Cabisera 17-21, Ilagan.
A week ago, over 7,000 board feet of hardwood flitches were seized in Jones as they were about to be shipped.
Late last month, Benito Soliven town Vice Mayor Roberto Lungan was charged for reportedly keeping over 4,000 undocumented sawn lumber in his compound and operating an illicit sawmill.
