SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga ,Philippines – Eighteen people were injured in a four-vehicle smashup yesterday morning on the northbound lane of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) near the San Simon, Pampanga exit amid heavy rains that affected visibility.
NLEX supervisor Ariel Salita said 16 of those injured were passengers and driver of a public utility jeepney who were all rushed by ambulances to the Lingad Memorial Hospital here.
“We got reports that two other injured were rushed to other hospitals by other Good Samaritan motorists and we still had to locate them,” Salita said.
The accident, according to Salita, involved a 14-wheeler dump truck which was apparently speeding despite the heavy rain. The truck rammed the rear of the jeepney, which, in turn, hit the back of an Isuzu Elf mini van, causing it to swerve to the inner lane and hit a Toyota Innova.
