Cops file more charges vs principal suspect in BIR executive's slay

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines  – Police yesterday filed anew criminal charges against a principal suspect in the ambush of Bureau of Internal Revenue district officer Marcelino Yap last Feb. 17 in Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City.

Senior Superintendent Edwin Nemenzo, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 4-A regional director, said charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunitions and explosives were filed against Amando Cariño, alias Manding, who was tagged as the triggerman in Yap’s killing, before the Antipolo City prosecutor’s office.

Cariño was arrested at Sitio Sanakal, Barangay Dela Paz in Antipolo City at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Nemenzo.

Recovered from the suspect were one hand grenade, ammunitions and an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol, believed to have been used in the murder.

Nemenzo said his men are now doing everything to unmask the mastermind and the motive behind Yap’s killing.

Yap had just been dropped off by his driver and bodyguard and was walking in front of the L and M Grill and Restobar in Barangay Mayamot when he was shot at close range by the suspect.

The victim sustained five gunshot wounds and died on the spot.
