Bridge collapses after being hit by tornado

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines  – A wooden bridge in Purok 3, Sitio Ca­yutan, Barangay Cagniog in Surigao City collapsed yesterday afternoon after a tornado hit the bridge, the Surigao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.

No casualty neither injured was reported so far.

At least three houses near the bridge were reportedly partially damaged as the tornado swooped down on the coastal village unexpectedly yesterday afternoon.

The Surigao City Quick Response team immediately proceeded to Barangay Cagniog to assess the situation.

In Siargao Island, the municipality of Del Carmen-Barangay Mahayahay Road was reportedly damaged rendering it not passable as of press time.

Updated reports from Surigao del Norte PDRRMC reported that as of 12 p.m. yesterday, a total of 9,481 families or 45, 004 individuals from 129 barangays in the province were affected by the recent flash floods brought about by northeast monsoon and wind convergence affecting Mindanao.

Meanwhile, missing farmer Amado Basadre who was reportedly swept away by strong currents while crossing a river in Barangay Honrado, San Francisco, Surigao del Norte Thursday at the height of continuous of rain was reportedly nowhere to be found as of this writing.
