1,000 evacuated in Surigao Norte

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines  – A man was reported missing while at least 225 families or 1,089 residents had to be evacuated in Surigao del Norte following two days of continuous rainfall.

In Dinagat Islands, classes in all levels were suspended, while Agusan del Sur authorities have alerted disaster management teams to be ready for contingencies.

The Office of Civil Defense-Caraga identified the missing man as Amado Basadre, a resident of Barangay Honrado, San Francisco, Surigao del Norte, who was swept by the strong current while crossing a river.
