Missing Korean committed suicide?

CAMP RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ, Libertad, Butuan City, Philippines – Police in General Luna town in Siargao Island found the missing South Korean’s body Thursday afternoon, belated report from Surigao del Norte Provincial Police based in Surigao City said.

Surigao del Norte provincial police director Senior Superintendent Emmanuel Talento said search and rescue team tasked to search the missing Korean found the foreigner already dead near Daku Island where his rented boat was found empty by the fisherman whom the missing Korean rented.

Surigao del Norte provincial police office operations officer chief Inspector Rudy Elanda told this writer in a long distance interview that the remains of the Korean now lie in state at Nilo Funeral Homes in Siargao Island’s capital town of Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

“Found in the Korean’s remains was a suicide note written both in Korean and in English translation saying he wanted to vanish from this world,” Elanda told this writer in a mobile phone interview.

Elanda and Talento said Korean embassy officials in Manila were already informed about the development of the missing Korean.

Caraga police regional director Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Rafal told The STAR in an interview that relatives of Kim Dae Kyu already arrived in the country and are now going to Siargao Island particularly in Dapa.

On Dec. 19, the Korean identified later as Kim Dae Kyu rented a dinghy boat and allegedly went to Guyam Island in General Luna town some few kilometers away from here and a five-hour motorboat ride from Surigao City.

The Korean failed to return the following day prompting Bernard Ticod, 30, married, fisherman and resident of Barangay General Luna, Surigao del Norte one of the owners of the dinghy boat the Korean rented to look and search for the Korean.

Ticod went to Guyam Island to check the Korean’s whereabouts, but prior to his arrival he saw an abandoned dinghy floating along Daku Strait. He then proceeded to the Island to look for the foreigner however, he only found one black wallet with driver’s license, one hat color beige, cash money and notebook with a written note which later was found out to be a suicide note, police said.

On Dec. 23 afternoon, the missing South Korean’s body was found in Daku Island, police said.
