MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) is pushing anew the implementation of a nationwide gun ban, which police officials described to be one of the effective measures to deter commission of crimes.
PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the gun ban issue will be discussed during a meeting of the National Peace and Order Council.
Cruz clarified though that it would not be a total gun ban but a selective one, allowing individuals with death threats and qualified to secure PNP permits to carry firearms outside their residences.
Cruz admitted that the PNP has issued too many permits even to unqualified individuals.
