Oil spill no longer a risk to Cagayan

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines  – The threat of the oil spill from a North Korean ship affecting the northern coast of Cagayan is over.

This, as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has declared contained the oil leak from the M/V Nam Yang 8, which ran aground off the coast of Baloi in Ilocos Norte’s Pagudpud town last January.

Both Cagayan’s northwestern part and Ilocos Norte’s northern tip lie along the South China Sea, where the cargo vessel was abandoned.

Capt. George Ursabia, PCG-Northern Luzon district commander, said there is no longer any danger from the oil spill.
