Ex-Kalinga vice mayor killed

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Philippines – A former Kalinga town vice mayor was killed Wednesday evening but police said the reason is not politics but he was accidentally shot for going in between two hot heads.

Tabuk police commander Chief Inspector Bobby Glen Ganipac said former Tanudan town vice mayor Gilbert Anganay tried to mediate between a verbal tussle with his drinking buddies Santos Wacnang and another village mate inside a karaoke bar in this city.

But Wacnang pulled off his .45 caliber pistol and aimed at his foe and the former vice mayor tried to go in between.

When a shot rang out, Anganay was hit on his chest.

The former official was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead before he could reach it, while Wacnang was arrested and thrown to jail to face homicide charges.

Police reiterated no politics was involved and doused fears of any tribal war backlash because all those involved come from the same tribe in Tanudan.
