LOS BAÑOS, Laguna , Philippines – The local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office has proclaimed the winners in the municipal elections in this university town.
Anthony Genuino of Bigkis Party won in the mayoral race, garnering 17,658 votes.
He defeated four other aspirants for the local government’s top post, namely: incumbent Vice Mayor Procopio Alipon, Nacionalista Party (NP), who received 15,355 votes; former mayor Francisco Lapis (Liberal Party), 8,087 votes; Christopher Rompo (Independent), 97 votes; and Servillano Olleta (Ind.), 82 votes.
Genuino’s running mate, Josephine Sumangil-Evangelista, won as vice mayor. She defeated Norvin Tamisin (Puwersa ng Masa), Geronimo Ciceron (NP), Norlio Aquino (LP), and Rosalino Tenorio (Ind.) in the vice mayoral race.
Elected councilors were Cesar Cabrera, journalist Lourdes Principe, Benedicto Alborida, Domingo Galang, Jay Rolusta, all of Bigkis: Antonio Kalaw, Bryan Gahol, both of LP and Julius Moliñawe of Lakas-Kampi.
Genuino, son of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) chairman Efraim Genuino, will succeed Mayor Caesar Peres, who has been elected vice governor of Laguna. Peres is on his third term as Los Baños mayor.
