MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo has appointed retired Army Gen. Edilberto Adan as the new member of the anti-private army Zeñarosa Commission, to replace retired general Jaime Echeverria, who died last week.
Mrs. Arroyo announced Adan’s appointment during the induction of officials of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas on Monday.
Adan is currently the executive director of the Presidential Commission on the Visiting Forces Agreement.
Commissioner Herman Basbaño, who is also the spokesman of the seven-member panel, welcomed the appointment of Adan, who was already an adviser to them prior to his designation.
The appointments of Adan, and previously, Echeverria was for the representation of the Association of General and Flag Officers to the Commission.
The President created the commission, headed by retired Justice Monina Arevalo Zeñarosa, last Dec. 8 in response to the Nov. 23 Maguindanao massacre.
Other members of the panel are Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos, Mahmod Adilao of the Ulama League of the Philippines, Dante Jimenez of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, and retired police director Virtus Gil.
