Bangued, Abra , Philippines – A former mayor of an Abra town, who was also the provincial jail warden, was gunned down by a former policeman Monday night in Barangay Labaan Proper, San Quintin.
Former San Quintin mayor Jovito Baldoz Diaz who, according to Abra police director Senior Superintendent Charlo Collado had a verbal spat with former policeman Jovencio Cotchay Florentino before the latter peppered the jail official with bullets.
The former policeman was drunk, added Collado who doused insinuations that the killing was politically-motivated. This, though Diaz was reportedly regaining his former post in the town in the 2010 polls.
He was shot to death with the use of a caliber short firearm Monday at Barangay Labaan Proper San Quintin, Abra on or about 9:20 p.m. The gunman, also a resident of San Quintin town, is now being held by Abra police. – Artemio Dumlao
