Lucena pushed as RP's biodiesel city

LUCENA CITY, Philippines  – Biodiesel is now being used on vehicles by the national and local agencies based in this city after the testing agreement was signed Friday led by the city government and the National Biodiesel Board.

Lucena City Mayor Ramon Talaga was tasked to send notices to all users of government vehicles to use two percent biodiesel and 10 percent of ethynol blend for motor vehicles.

Talaga enjoined all gasoline stations and delivery trucks to try and obey the Biofuels Law, if not Talaga said, they would face charges based on the Biofuels law and Clean Air Act (R.A. 8749).

He said this program gives a challenge on his administration in such a way he could make the highly urbanized city of Lucena to be well-known as BioFuel City in the country.

As such, Lucena City would be the first in the country and in Asia to enforce the use of biodiesel blend on car fuel and soon to be used in all kinds of vehicles.      – Michelle Zoleta
