CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A former village chieftain and his barangay treasurer were gunned down by unidentified armed men believed to be communist guerrillas in San Narciso town, Quezon province Sunday midnight, police said.
Police said the victims identified as Rodelio Endriga, 45, ex-chairman of Barangay Binay, San Narciso, and his aide Christopher Quinto, 39, were both found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on the body.
According to police investigation, the crime took place at around 12 to 1 p.m. while the victims were on board their motorcycle and on their way home along Sitio Madanggay when they were blocked by the suspected rebels.
Two of the killers armed with caliber .45 pistols shot the victims at close range and escaped on foot towards the San Narciso highway.
According to police investigators, the victim received death threats since 2005 from alleged NPAs, but he ignored it until they were ambushed Sunday. – Ed Amoroso
