Antipolo cop chief sacked over robbery

For his alleged failure to prevent a P2.3-million pawnshop robbery last Jan. 14, Superintendent Raul Bargamento, Antipolo City police chief, was ordered relieved from his post yesterday.

Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad directed Bargamento to report to his office today to explain why he failed to stop the robbery at the Del Carmen pawnshop along the Marcos Highway in Barangay Mayamot.

The pawnshop lost assorted jewelry worth P2.3 million and P15,000 in cash to robbers who had rented a house near a TV shop from where they bore a hole to the pawnshop.

Also in Antipolo, four suspected members of the “Floodway robbery gang” were killed in a shootout with police yesterday after they ignored a police checkpoint.

Senior Superintendent Ireneo Dordas, Rizal police director, said the slain suspects, Wendelyn Llantos, 39, and his brother, Danilo, 37; Jesus Quilatan, 44, and Noli Estular, 33, were positively identified by witnesses as those who robbed the Petron gasoline station in Cainta town Monday morning. – Non Alquitran, Ed Amoroso
