CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – The vice mayor of San Manuel, Tarlac and his security aide were gunned down by three men in front of the former’s residence last Saturday afternoon.
In a report to the Central Luzon police command here, Senior Superintendent Rudy Lacadin, Tarlac police director, said Vice Mayor Reynaldo Malazo, 64, and his bodyguard, Romeo Barrientos, 45, had just come from a wedding party in San Jose, Nueva Ecija when they were attacked.
Lacadin said Malazo and Barrientos were about to alight from the vice mayor’s Mazda van in front of his house along MacArthur Highway in Barangay San Salcedo, San Manuel town when the gunmen fired at them.
The gunmen fled on board an unlicensed Honda Wave motorcycle, Lacadin said.
Malazo and Barrientos were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Police found eight spent caliber .45 shells at the crime scene.
Lacadin said he has dispatched a team to thoroughly investigate the killing and track down the gunmen.
