60 hurt as LPG tanker explodes in Cavite

Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna – Around 60 persons were hurt when a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker exploded in Carmona, Cavite yesterday morning, officials said.

Senior Superintendent Hernando Zafra, Cavite police director, said a Lorie Bullet Bulk tanker truck with 8,000 kilograms of LPG owned by Republic Gas Corp. exploded while discharging its content at Induplex Inc. in Southcoast Industrial Estate in Barangay Bancal around 7 a.m.

Zafra said at least two residential houses at the back of the said establishment incurred damages estimated around P300,000.

Chief Inspector Danilo Cabaluna, Carmona fire department chief, in a radio interview said the explosion triggered after the outlet valve detached from its container tank and created a spark, subsequently an explosion.

Cabaluna said at least 60 persons were hurt and were all rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Fire probers said they have yet to file charges against the owners of the tanker pending an investigation. – Arnell Ozaeta
