CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Nine activists, suspected members of the New People’s Army, two of them tagged as among those responsible for the Globe cell site bombing in Lemery, Batangas, last month, were arrested by military and police in Barangay Tartaria, Silang, Cavite, police said.
Those arrested were Renato Alvarez, 65; Yolanda Caraig, 48; Leslie Cresino, 27; Franco Remeroso, 27; Felip Nardo, 24; Bernardo Derain, 32; Janice Javier, 23; Mario Joson, 55 and Jomel Agana, 19.
The nine who were reported missing on Sunday, were locked-up at the Regional Special Operation Group (RSOG) headquarters. They were charged for violation of P.D. 1866 as amended by R.A. 8294.
According to Superintendent Romano Cardino, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for Operation and Intelligence, the nine were captured in a joint operation of the RSOG men and military in Cavite, at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Cardino said they were on board a yellow Isuzu multicab without plate number heading towards Tagaytay City when they were flagged down by military and police.
Police recovered from the suspects, one .45 caliber, one 9mm pistol, undetermined quantity of assorted explosives and devises. – Ed Amoroso
