CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Communist guerillas has bombed the Globe cell site at Barangay Mahabang Dahilig, Lemery, Batangas, Saturday evening, damaging facilities worth of P5 million, reports said.
Belated reports reaching Chief Superintendent Ricardo Padilla, Calabarzon police director, said 12 heavily armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army operating in the western portion of Batangas, entered the Globe compound at around 11 p.m. and disarmed a security guard identified as Pedro Villanueva Jr.
The rebels immediately placed the explosives inside the cabin and warehouse’s generator including the main switch, crude tank and radio base.
After a minute, a loud explosion heard inside the Globe compound, causing the entire facilities to be totally damaged and paralyzed operations.
Padilla said the rebels took Villanueva’s service firearms, a caliber .38 pistol and fled on board a passenger type jeep heading towards the highway in Batangas.
Elements of the Lemery police and the 401st Provincial Police Mobile Group, including the military composed of the 740th squadron were dispatched to track down the NPA guerrillas, but, the operation yielded negative.
Police authorities are now coordinating with the explosives division units of the Philippine Air Force to determine the kind of explosives used by the suspects. – Ed Amoroso
