Journalists challenged Speaker Prospero Nograles yesterday to show his support for press freedom by working for the release of Davao broadcaster Alexander Adonis who is languishing at the Davao Penal Colony for libel.
Adonis, who is suffering from tuberculosis, was meted last year a jail term of five years and six months for a libel case filed against him in 2001 by Nograles, then a Davao congressman.
Last Friday, media groups filed a petition for writ of habeas corpus for Adonis before the Supreme Court. – Mike Frialde
