2 killed, 23 injured in SLEX mishap

SAN PEDRO, Laguna – Two persons were killed while 23 others were hurt when a passenger bus collided with a 10-wheeler truck along the national highway 15 meters away from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) toll gate located in Barangay San Vicente here yesterday.

Police traffic investigator identified the two fatalities as Asuncion Clemente, 40, assigned at the Land Transportation Office as Clerk 11, and resident of Imus, Cavite, who was pinned down inside the bus.

The other victim, Wilson Oliveros, 32, was declared dead on arrival at the Family Care Hospital.

Investigators said the 23 injured were rushed to various hospitals in San Pedro and Biñan, Laguna for treatment.

According to reports, the vehicular accident occurred at around 12 a.m. yesterday.  A  JAC Liner passenger bus (PWN-559) and Isuzu  10-wheeler truck (WTE-458) were heading to Manila when they figured in the collision.

Investigators said the bus driver, Florencio Marisigan, lost control of the steering wheel and turned upside down and plunged into a vacant lot.

Probers said the 10-wheeler truck driver Avelino Maralit, 49, of Lipa City,  Batangas including Marisigan were held for custodial investigation pending the filing of criminal complaint by the victims. — With Arnell Ozaeta
