BACOLOD CITY – A barangay captain was wounded while his 28-year-old son was killed when 17 armed men stormed his house in Escalante City, Negros Occidental Thursday night.
Police said re-elected village chief Fernando Demalerio was not present when the armed men surrounded his house. His son, Filjun, was shot dead when he went out of the house to check what was going on.
Demalerio, who was with his wife, Tessie, in a nearby store, rushed to his house to get his caliber .45 revolver.
Three of the armed men followed Demalerio inside his house where he managed to shoot back, killing one of them. Demalerio sustained a minor gunshot wound.
While fleeing, the attackers torched an empty Army outpost 200 meters away from Demalerio’s house. – Antonieta Lopez
