GMA gives go-ahead with cyber-education project

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Tuesday has given the go-ahead for the Philippine government to push through with their cyber-education project.

This despite the controversy still surrounding the National Broadband Network project with the Chinese firm ZTE Corp.

In a statement during the opening of the National Security Council -  National Economic Development Authority at the Malacañang, Pres. Arroyo said in Filipino, "Our infrastructure and investment should not be blocked by criticism.  This is why I have ordered the China Projects Oversight Panel under Secretary (Peter) Favila to ensure that nothing will hinder the Cyber Education for the education of millions of our students."

"We shall consult the Education Task Force under Fr. Ben Nebres of Ateneo, to ensure if the project will follow the requirements of education," she said.

She added, "Also included here is the Procurement Transparency Group, as well as the Civil Society Organizations for Procurement Reform, to make sure that the project's processes are open and transparent."
