Military dismisses 12 Oakwood mutineers from service

Twelve of the military officers involved in the failed Oakwood mutiny were dishonorably discharged by the military Wednesday.

The military court ordered the twelve leaders of the Magdalo group dismissed from service after the group pleaded guilty to charges of violation of Article of War 96 or conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman.

Those dismissed were Army Captains Gerardo Gambala, Milo Maestrecampo, Albert Baloloy, Alvin Ebreo, Lawrence Somera and John Andres; and Army 1st Lieutenants Rex Bolo, Von Rio Tayag, Audie Tocloy, Cleo Donga-as, Florentino Somera and Brian Yasay.

An official of the court said the verdict and sentence would become effective upon approval of President Gloria Arroyo.

The twelve were part of 300 military officers and enlisted personnel who took over the Oakwood building in Makati City last July 27, 2003.

The junior officers are still facing coup d'etat charges before a civilian court.
