San Roque water level still below normal

SAN FERNANDO , La Union – The water level of the San Roque Dam in San Manuel, Pangasinan is still below normal despite the continuous rainfall in the past days.

Based on data from the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council, the dam’s water level, as of 12 noon yesterday, reached 242.34 meters, or 37.66 meters below the 280-meter spilling level.

Melchito Castro, assistant regional director of the Office of Civil Defense, said the recent rainfall “was not sufficient enough to provide the dam with the proper water supply because the raindrops were too small unlike in previous rainshowers.”

The San Roque Dam, one of the biggest in Asia, reached its critical level on July 26 with 225.20 meters due to the dry spell, prompting authorities to stop operating its three turbine generators for several days. – Jun Elias
