AGOO, La Union – Two men got a taste of their own misdeed when a grenade they had tossed in front of this town’s municipal building Saturday night went off and caused them injuries, police said.
Suspect Danilo Ramos, 52, and his companion were arrested and brought to the hospital for treatment, but the latter managed to escape.
A third suspect, Edwin Campos, driver of the getaway Tamaraw FX van, was also arrested. He yielded a caliber .380 pistol, said Chief Inspector Floro Samortin, Agoo police chief.
It was the second explosion since the May 14 polls. Earlier, a grenade also went off in front of a building owned by Mayor Franny Eriguel, whose wife, Sandra, beat Tess Dumpit-Michelena in the mayoral race. Three explosives were also recovered in separate places.
Eriguel ran for congressman but lost to Butch Dumpit, son of Rep. Tomas Dumpit Sr. who, in turn, was defeated by first district Rep. Manuel Ortega in the gubernatorial race. – With Myds Supnad
